Major projects

The major urban development projects in the Seraing Valley principally affect two main areas: as you come into the town on Rue Cockerill and the Urban Boulevard.

The Town Entrance
has a prestigious architectural heritage (the Palace of the Bishops of Liège, large industrial buildings) and a particular location: beside the Meuse, with direct access to the motorway coming from Brussels, Paris, Namur and Maastricht. The development of the town entrance in Cockerill Street is composed of several projects, in particular including:

  • The development of Jemeppe towers.
  • The widening of Cockerill Street (bus lane, pedestrianization, control of car traffic).
  • The construction of the town administration building.
  • Neocittà I, a building accommodating housing accommodation and shops.
  • Neocittà II, redevelopment and reuse of an industrial site in order to create a shopping centre.

The Urban Boulevard, an important part of the master plan, will cross the Seraing Valley from East to West, will be 6.5 km long and 30 metres wide. It will improve mobility in the heart of the valley and generate an urban dynamic (business activities and housing) in the districts through which is passes.

The urban boulevard will include a bus lane, cycle tracks, pedestrian areas and landscaped sites. It will enhance development project and sites, in particular LD, and a business park that is to be created on 17 ha.

This urban development also involves:
- a subway under the road.
- the Molinay district.
- the Ateliers Centraux workshops.
- Priority: upgrading outdated houses.
